The name "chalcedony" originated from the earliest Grecian city of Chalcedon. Chalcedony forms after lava has solidified and cooled, and from the earliest days was used by the native American Indians to provide strength and protection to their religious ceremonies. It is said to bring the mind, body, emotions, and spirit into harmony, and to promote good will by absorbing negative energy.
