Aventurine is a naturally occurring form of quartz that was historically used in Tibet to increase perception and improve eyesight. It can be distinguished from other types of quartz by the tiny sparkling flecks contained within the stone. It is this quality that gives the stone its name - it was considered to resemble a sparkly green ornamental glass of the same name which was invented in Italy during the 18th century, and contained shimmering metallic flakes which were added to the glass while it was still molten hot.
In healing, aventurine is said to calm and stabilise the emotions, increase tranquility, and encourage us to have a positive outlook on things. Green aventurine is one of the best balances for the heart chakra, and promotes spiritual growth and gratitude for what we have.
